Tori wrote the first half hour of what would become BOXED as part of her Arts Council Funded 'Made In LDN' season at The Cockpit. 'I'd done this call out for new work and I'd explicitly asked for modern, diverse stories - set in London - that refelected our society today, and the reality is I wasn't sent much of that. I realised I can't complain about the lack of diverse casting and meaty parts for all regardless of creed or colour or size or shape or sexuality, if I don't actively try and fix the problem myself. So BOXED was born from my frustration - at not seeing people that I think relfect society in 2017 on stage, and not hearing the stories of those who are so often silenced by the media'. BOXED received brilliant feedback and the actors initially involved encouraged Tori to finish the story - 'so I did'. Tori was then offered a week long development programme at Stratford East - MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP, here she was able to hone the script, receive constructive criticism and feedback from the faculty and showcase a segment of the show in front of invited industry and guests. Tori already had an Arts Council Application in for a run at The Vaults and was delighted when they came back with a yes. Tori assembled a cast of talented friends as well as talented artists she'd seen in previous productions, and set about bringing the show to life. After a workshop period with acclaimed director Phil Griffin, Tori was left to imagine the piece herself and in just a couple of days an original version of the show came to life with the help of a phenomenal cast and creative team, The Made In LDN Collective was born - a show made possible through the sheer blood, sweat, tears and passion of all involved. BOXED played six shows at The Vaults and plans to resurface in 2018 - watch this space.
