Where are you starting from?

Two ways in. One person behind both.

“There must be a better way to do this.”

Architecture for growing businesses

Part of your business is slow, manual or messy, and you're not sure if the answer is a process change, a system or AI. I'll map it, cost the options and recommend one, before anyone sells you anything.

“We need to get AI and technology right.”

Fractional CTO and Chief AI Officer

You need senior technology and AI leadership without a full-time hire: a roadmap, vendors held to account, AI that's governed and actually live. And someone who can build.

Take the AI scorecardReadiness Sprint · retainers from 2 days a month

The real problem

It’s rarely the technology. It’s the gap between the people who advise and the people who build.

95%

of organisations saw no measurable return from generative AI

MIT NANDA, 2025

29%

of UK businesses now use AI, up 8 points in a year

ONS BICS, July 2026
“We’ve had the AI workshop. Nothing changed.”
“Our agency quotes six months for what feels simple.”
“I know there’s a better way to run this. I just don’t know what it is.”
“Nobody in the building can tell me if we’re doing this right.”

The fix is one senior person who owns the decision and the delivery. That’s the job I do.

How it works

Find it. Build it. Keep it running.

  1. 01

    Find

A Better Way Review or Readiness Sprint. I map how the work really flows, put numbers on the leaks, and compare the options: fix, configure, buy, build or add AI.

  2. 02

    Build

I direct a team of AI agents, review every change myself, and ship tested, documented software. Weeks of estimated effort, delivered in days.

  3. 03

    Run and lead

I keep automations running under Run and Care, and stay on as your fractional CTO or Chief AI Officer if you want a senior hand on the wheel.

Boxed Online

One accountable lead. The right specialists. No agency overheads.

Boxed Online is my consultancy. I lead every engagement personally and I am accountable for the result. When a programme is bigger than one person, I bring in consultants from a network I have worked with before, so you get the right specialists without the layers of an agency.

AI isn’t always the answer.

In regulated industries such as pharma and healthcare, financial services and insurance, the right answer is often to implement ERP, CRM and workflow engines properly: validated, auditable and integrated. Then use AI in the right places inside them.

01

ERP

Finance, supply chain and operations on a platform built to be audited.

Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain, SAP S/4HANA

02

CRM

One view of the customer, with the process behind it configured properly.

Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Power Platform

03

Workflow and rules engines

Approvals, decisions and hand-offs that run the same way every time.

Power Automate, BPMN, Condexa

04

AI where it earns its place

Used inside those systems where it measurably helps, and left out where it does not.

Agents, document processing, copilots

Regulated delivery: GxP · computer system validation · GDPR

Free automation proof

Pick one process that eats your team’s week. I’ll automate it for free.

If it works, I run and look after it for a fixed monthly fee or a share of what it saves you, with a report every month showing exactly what it saved. If it doesn’t, you’ve lost nothing.

3 free proofs a month · no card · no contract until it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell me the process

Two minutes: what it is, how often it runs, which systems it touches.

  2. Step 2

    Free working proof

Built on your real data in 5 to 10 working days, measured against an agreed baseline.

  3. Step 3

    Keep it running

Fixed monthly fee or gain-share. Hosted, monitored and improved.

About

25 years of building, and still building.

I started as a developer in 1998 and ran a virtual CTO business for SMEs from 2005, long before “fractional” had a name. Today I lead group architecture and chair the AI leadership team in a large healthcare group, and I build products of my own.

“The architecture is rarely the hard part. The hard part is people who have been asked to change before. So I start by listening.”

Straight answers

The questions people ask first.

What's the catch with a free proof?

There isn't one, but there is a filter. I only take on processes that run at least weekly, can be measured, and have an owner who can give two hours a week. I cap free proofs each month so every one gets proper attention. If it works, most people want to keep it running, and that is how I get paid.

How does gain-share work?

We agree the baseline in writing before I build: hours, cost, error rate or revenue. Each month the value report compares the same measures. My fee is an agreed percentage of the verified difference, with a minimum fee. If the value can't be measured from your own systems, we use a fixed fee instead.

Who owns the code?

On projects, you do: code, documents, cloud accounts and passwords are yours from day one. On Run and Care, I license and operate the automation for you, with a published buy-out price so you can take it over at any time.

What happens if you're unavailable?

Everything is documented as it's built: designs, decisions, runbooks and tests. Automations are monitored with alerts. A named, vetted developer from my network of trusted consultants can step in, and you can always take the whole thing over using the buy-out.

Will you work with our existing IT provider or agency?

Yes. Most of my clients have an MSP and at least one agency. My job is to make sure they're building the right thing, and to build the parts that nobody else can do quickly.
